Cane Toad question

I live on a rural property and was breaking up a fallen log which was approx. 60cm across which was partially eaten out by termites. Inside at the top of the log was three large Cane Toads. Can they climb, if not how would they have got into the top of the log?

Answer(s)

Toads can climb rough surfaces they can grip onto so they could climb up the inside of a tree or log. They cannot climb smooth surfaces like green tree frogs can, as they do not have pads on their toes, but they can climb things they can grip onto such as wire mesh or rough surfaces.
