Habits

Diurnal, Both gregarious and nomadic, breeding in close-packed colonies of hundred to thousands, moxing and roosting with other terns.

Habitat

Coastal, shallow inshore waters.

Breeding

May to November. One egg; reddish-white in colour, with purplish or reddish-brown spots, and under marks of grey. Incubation by both sexes, about 25 days.
