Description
Streaked white head, whitish eye; large blue patch on shoulder, uniform pale-blue rump; tail: deep-blue (male); red-brown (female); barred darker in both. Immature: lighter streaking on head; slight dark mottlings on white plumage.
Habits
Diurnal, Whilst hunting Kookaburras perch motionless on a branch of powerline until they spot their prey, then the fly to ground and seize it.
Habitat
Coastal Woodlands Forest Grassland, Open forest & mangroves besides streams. Eucalypt and gallery woodlands of coastal and subcoastal northern Australia.
Notes
Usually live in family groups and all members of the group feed and protect the young
Breeding
September to November, 2-3 white eggs are incubated for 23-24 days by all members of the group. Young fly in about 5 weeks
